Laundering the evidence

After two years of being kept out in the open air and exposed to hard weather conditions, one of the main pieces of evidence in the form of the wreckage of the Tu-154 plane which crashed on 10 April 2010 was shown shining clean. Other parts such as windows seem to have been replaced with new ones.

The photos of the wreckage to which some journalist has been allowed to for a short time, unambiguously show that the wreckage has been cleaned. Photojournalists who were taking photos during the 2nd Smolensk crash commemoration and were let to take some photos of the wreckage of Tu-154M were amazed. The part of the plane looked like was carefully cleaned. Lawyers are amazed. The wreckage of the Tu-154M is the body of evidence which shouldn’t be available for nobody. If the material evidence hasn’t been fully examined the outsiders shouldn’t be allowed to it. Someone could plant or take away sth.

'We can speculate that the reason is to disavow possible research findings in the future', says Bogdan Swieczkowski, a retired prosecutor, the former head of Internal Security Agency.

According to the legal representative of some of the victim’s families Rafal Rogalski cleaning and washing the wreckage was a propaganda move. “The Russian side undertook actions aimed at covering its neglect. Over the last two years the wreckage has been exposed to hard weather conditions. Polish prosecutors were allowed to inspect the wreckage one and half year after the catastrophe. The parts of the wreckage were dismantled. In any other country such evidence as the wreckage, would be stored in a hangar to avoid any collateral damage”.

The wreckage after two years in open air has been stored in a temporary built wooden shed. It is likely that the windows have been replaced.
